As per The Guardian, Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire has announced himself to be fit to play against Scotland at the Euros this week.
The Three Lions got off to a magnificent start by winning their important opening tie against Croatia last Sunday. They will presently hope to make it two victories on the run by overcoming the old foe tomorrow.
The key player who missed the game was Maguire, who is as yet recovering from a physical injury he suffered against Aston Villa last month. He has not played since but has now made himself accessible for Gareth Southgate’s side.
As per the report, the Red Devils captain has now targeted the game against the Czech Republic next Tuesday for his complete return. His return will certainly give Southgate more chances to plan his strategy as they aim to win the competition.
Maguire said: “I feel good. I’m back available, I’ve been training and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve done a few sessions now and I feel like my fitness is there. I’m here as a player but also as a fan so I fully understand my position in the camp. Whatever happens, I want England to win – that’s my main focus.”
Having started his preparation with the England squad last Thursday, Maguire has recovered faster than everyone else expected. The onus is presently on Southgate to settle on a firm center-back. The player anyway concedes that he can finally relax and is excited to go and play.
Maguire anyways will not be starting the game against Scotland but he may enter via substitution which will be the right choice for him considering his injury. Pushing him straight into a match with improper fitness could be unfavourable to both the player and the team.
England will have more pressing issues to focus on in the coming rounds as they will face tougher opponents. They will require their best defender to stay fit as they will aim to pursue their first significant honour since 1966.
While the England manager has a wealth of options in John Stones, Tyrone Mings, Conor Coady, and Ben White, none of them can compare to Maguire’s capacity or leadership abilities. His return is a piece of great news for England.
