Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is yet not fit to take the field for England. The 28-year-old anyway watched on as the Three Lions started their Euro 2020 with a hard-fought victory against Croatia.
Taking on old enemies Croatia, England were without Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho while Jack Grealish was present on the bench. Curiously, none of United’s four players made it to the starting XI, with three of them on the bench.
Marcus Rashford was the lone Red Devils player who entered in the second half for England. He momentarily wore the captain’s armband when Raheem Sterling was substituted. That was maybe the highest point for the United youngster playing for his national team.
Eventually, Gareth Southgate’s side won, because of a second-half strike from Raheem Sterling. He put the ball past the Croatian goalkeeper after some fine work by Kalvin Phillips.
Eventually, the goal was sufficient for England as they started their International tournament with an important victory. Maguire was particularly glad and took to Twitter to express his satisfaction. He posted an image of the players celebrating after Sterling’s goal with the message ‘The perfect start’.

As he is recovering from his injuries, he will most likely miss England’s next few games as well. Britain next takes on Scotland on the 18th of June prior to playing the Czech Republic on the 22nd of June. Continuing to the knockouts could allow Maguire an opportunity to play for the team as he will recover by then.
In spite of taking part in training on Thursday, Maguire showed limited development and was unable to last a full training session. Maguire currently has his eyes set on England’s last Group D game against the Czech Republic.
It is great to see that Maguire is cheerful even after his physical injury. Ideally, he will get back to play mode as soon as possible.
