Harry Maguire Reveals The Reason Why He Joined Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire explained the main reason for his move to the Theatre Of Dreams was to tin trophies with the Premier League giants.

Maguire penned a six-year contract at Old Trafford by completing a record £80 million ($99m) move from Leicester City in the summer transfer window and he became the world’s most expensive defender in the process.

The 27-year-old Maguire has since justified his price tag by to transforming the Red Devils backline into a solid defensive unit, striking up a formidable partnership with Swedish star Victor Lindelof in the heart of the defence.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw enough in Harry Maguire to offer him the captain’s armband in January, and the change in leadership quickly inspired a turnaround in performances and results.

The Red Devils were unbeaten in 11 matches across all competitions before the season was postponed due to the coronavirus crisis early in March. During that time, United recorded nine clean sheets as well and Harry Maguire was integral to providing a solid base for the club to build on.

A top-four berth in the Premier League still remains within sight with the silverware of the Europa League and FA Cup also in grasp.   Maguire has been credited as one of the driving forces behind the team’s recent revival since the turn of the year.

The English defender acknowledged the fact that Manchester United were far too inconsistent in the first half of the season, but felt the positive signs of progress that were displayed in early 2020. In a recent Q&A session, Maguire revealed that his main reason to join Manchester United was to win trophies with the 20-time Premier League giants. He said, “I have joined this club because I want to win trophies and I want to get silverware. When I look back on my time at Manchester United, I want to make sure I have some trophies in that cabinet.”
