Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has thanked Gareth Southgate for trusting him during his struggling days for club and country.
The English centre-back has struggled for game time under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. He suffered a groin injury which kept him out for the first half of the season.
But since then has made a good comeback in the last 24 appearances across all competitions. Erik ten Hag has been hesitant while using him in the starting XI.
However, it has been the exact opposite for Maguire with England. The Three Lions manager Southgate has trusted the 31-year-old and handed over the captain’s armband to him on numerous occasions.

Even after losing his spot at the club level, Maguire has been a regular presence in the English first team. The former Leicester City star has thanked Southgate for believing in him during his struggling days.
As quoted by BBC, he said:
“There are loads of people out there now who probably don’t think I should be in the squad. Millions of people think I should be.”
“That’s football and that’s why it’s such a great game because everyone has such a different opinion. I think that the faith and the trust that he [Southgate] has shown me throughout my time for England has been brilliant.”
Maguire is expected to start once again when the Three Lions face Brazil and Belgium this month. He will be gaining his 63rd cap for the national side in the match against the former.
Maguire has been rock solid for Man United since returning from injury this season
The centre-back has been a vital player at the back, a perfect leader for England. It may not be the same case at Man United, but he has proved his value time and again.
However, the defender has made sure that he gives a befitting reply to his haters by delivering solid performances for the Red Devils in the past few months. He has won 75 per cent of his aerial duels and made 3.3 clearances per game.

He has also improved his passing accuracy by 84 per cent. Despite all this, we believe that the former United captain would need to access his options this summer since the club may be open to selling him this summer.
West Ham United are interested in signing him and may provide an offer worth £20 million for the star defender. It is a decent sum for a player who is past his prime and in his 30s.
