Harry Maguire will continue to captain Manchester United

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed in his pre-match conference that Harry Maguire will continue to captain the club after returning from an injury.

The €89m center-back has played just 19 minutes of football this season and has struggled to return back. He has been having difficulty in breathing.

He has missed three games after a chest injury he suffered against Burnley. However, his return is not as easy as it sounds and Rangnick has been strict about the player’s chances of playing in the starting XI.

As reported by The Sun, the manager said:

“Harry from the first day I arrived he played. He received an injury in the Burnley game and was out for the next two or three games. He was fully fit for the first time for the Brentford game and I explained to him that I didn’t want to change anything because I thought Victor and Rapha were doing well and their partnership was working well. Now with Victor being out, Harry will play from the beginning and obviously again he will be the captain of the team.”

Harry Maguire was fit against Brentford but Rangnick still choose to play Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane as his main center-backs.

When asked about this decision, the manager clearly stated that he feels that the partnership between Lindelof and Varane is working well and they could start regularly together.

The English center-back has been the captain of Manchester United for the past so many months and was hoping to get the same favor under Rangnick. But the manager is strict with his choices and will hand him the captain’s band only if he plays.

And now after Rangnick’s recent comments, it shows that Maguire has to fight for his place in the starting XI once Lindelof returns. The Swede can push him back to the bench when he is available for the next game.
