Manchester United were desperate for a centre-forward this summer, after January signing Odion Ighalo failed to produce the goods. The Red Devils only had Martial as the prolific goalscorer as a centre-forward, thus signed Edinson Cavani on the last day of the transfer window. In his latest talk with Metro, former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has labelled Cavani’s signing as desperate.
Harry Redknapp is one of the most loved managers in the Premier League and was at the helm of several clubs. He has always been open about voicing his opinion on anything and everything and is in fact right about most of the things. In his latest talk, Redknapp was talking about United’s new signing of veteran striker Edinson Cavani on transfer deadline day, on a free transfer.
He said: “It was obvious they (Manchester United) needed something even before last week’s shocker against Spurs. The worrying thing was a few of them seemed to throw in the towel. But signing Cavani, 33, on over £200,000 a week on the final day of the transfer window did smack of desperation to me.”
The signing of Edinson Cavani has left the United fanbase divided, as some believe Cavani will be a handful for United whereas others believe he will simply flop. The signing of Cavani is surely a high-risk transfer because of his wages and the agent fees involved, thus the Uruguayan needs to get it right at Manchester United.
