Is the title race already over for Manchester United?

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has had a mixed bag as the first team manager of Manchester United. He started his career as their manager with some impressive results but since then has failed to bring any silverware to the club.

They have also failed to make a lasting stay in the Champions League on several occasions as they have had to contend themselves with Europa League football.

Manchester United has surely made some great progress along the way but you can still see a few gaping holes that seem to hinder their consistency and cost them at pivotal moments in the season, including the recent draw with Everton.

“We shouldn’t even be considered as title chasers, that’s talk for you [the media]. We have got better as a team and see where we end up. Going forward, good, yes, but need to stop conceding easy goals.” Were Ole words as he spoke to Sky Sports after the game against Everton.

Ole spoke after the game and gave a hint that Manchester United have slipped up in their last few games and were probably already out of the title race for this season. Even though his words may just have been a way to ease the pressure of his players it certainly seems like Manchester United have fallen way behind current leaders Manchester City who still have games to spare.

Ole also focussed that there has been some good progress in the team especially going forward but their frailties at the back continue to crop up in important phases of the season. A solid defensive base is something that Manchester United really needs right now and it may just provide a few of the key missing pieces that can bring them some much-wanted silverware at the club.
