Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw his side produce a terrific derby victory against Manchester City and said that was how he had always envisaged his team playing.
English striker Marcus Rashford and French forward Anthony Martial were on the score sheet as the duo fired United to a 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
And while speaking to reporters, the 46-year-old expressed his delight at how the team performed against their most hated neighbors, “It’s a Man United performance in my mold – I love the boys going forward when there’s a chance.”
It was a display comparable at times to how Sir Alex Ferguson’s great sides could pick apart opponents defenses at will on the counter-attack, but Solskjaer is adamant this is a team of his own making and design.
After a relatively slow start to the season, his United team has come alive over the past week or so, deservedly beating Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday before crossing Manchester to pick three points off their title-challenging neighbors.
Their pace in attack left Pep Guardiola’s City players standing still at times, while Scott McTominay and Fred were impressive in anchoring the midfield keeping David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne at bay for most of the game.
Harry Maguire marshaled his defense thoroughly and was instrumental in keeping Manchester United tick at the back while Victor Lindelof played a role in keeping things simple at the heart of the defense.
