Jaap Stam has a strong message for Lisandro Martinez

Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has praised Lisandro Martinez but has also given his verdict on the player’s aggressive nature.

The Red Devils had a miserable start to the season as they lost two league games, leaving them at zero points. However, the introduction of Martinez changed the entire story. The back-line looked tight and didn’t concede goals.

The Argentine centre-back’s height was a central talking point but he has been able to banish his doubters by proving to be a vital force besides Raphael Varane. The former Ajax player has dominated the left side of the pitch along with Tyrell Malacia.

However, Jaap Stam believes that the player should have control over his aggressive nature as it can create trouble in the Premier League.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“Defensively, he’s very aggressive, sometimes he needs to be a little bit more aware of his opposition, not get caught or be too aggressive but that’s the thing you learn in the Premier League and what you learn playing against the big teams, better players than what he was used to in Holland and that’s what he’s picking up.”

The new signing has smoothly grooved with his teammates and is benefitting from his former manager Erik ten Hag’s philosophies. The Premier League has a reputation for testing a player’s calibre and attitude and the centre-back would look to sharpen his skills to be ready to face every obstacle thrown at him.

It was a rather harsh decision by the referee and the fans were fuming with a lack of proper decision-making in the game. However, the penalty call didn’t impact his gameplay as he was the best player on the pitch as soon as he was introduced in the second half of the game.
