As revealed by Erik ten Hag, Jadon Sancho may make his Manchester United comeback against Reading in the fourth round clash of the FA Cup.
Since moving from Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has had difficulty performing at his best, and earlier this season, Ten Hag revealed that the English star was not mentally and physically prepared to play for United.
To improve his form, the winger spent time away from the club during the World Cup break and was training under the Dutch coaches as advised by Ten Hag.
Sancho hasn’t played since the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on October 22. He returned to Carrington earlier in January and began group training again on Tuesday. And now, according to Ten Hag, Sancho may be included in the squad for the FA Cup match at Old Trafford on Saturday.
While speaking to the club’s official website, the Dutch boss said:
“He is training with the team and we will see. He’s improving. He’s making steps and we will make the decision after training [on Friday].”
“I said he’s on the way back, he’s making steps, he’s back in team training and we have to see when he’s ready to go back into games.”
In Sancho’s absence, United have risen to the top four of the Premier League and advanced in both domestic cup tournaments. In the first leg of the League Cup semifinal on Wednesday, United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 to reach their first major cup final since 2017.
Due to that outcome, Ten Hag may rest some important players for the second leg next week. However, the Dutchman may also be tempted to rotate against a Reading team coached by former United midfielder Paul Ince.
Luke Shaw is questionable to take on Reading after missing the Carabao Cup victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. Additionally, Diogo Dalot is also ruled out of the contest. Due to a muscular injury, the Portuguese full-back has missed the last four games for United.
