Manchester United hasn’t been in their best shape recently after some not-so-promising performances by the star players.
Jamie Carragher who has a habit of speaking about the club when they are in distress has again made it to the headlines for criticizing the team on all levels.
United’s progress under Rangnick has been deemed slow and his famed gegenpressing tactics have shown less of its magic till now. Carragher while speaking to the Telegraph has pointed out the exact cause of the problems and has called out many key players for the club’s current issues.
He said:
“What might worry United supporters now is when watching their side over the last few weeks, they remind me of Liverpool under Roy Hodgson. There is nothing about them; no passion, no emotion; every game seems flat; they lack energy and fluidity; the players are visibly not enjoying their football.”
“There is a highly respected football figure in charge, but it has taken a matter of weeks to make it obvious Ralf Rangnick is not the right fit for that squad and will not be on the touchline at the start of next season.
“I said from the outset that signing Ronaldo might expose more problems than it solved. That is proving correct, no matter what some of his ex-United teammates might say. That squad does not have the unity and discipline required to challenge City, Liverpool, and Chelsea.”
Though Carragher’s sentiments are forceful, it’s difficult to imagine anyone disagreeing with them at this point. The Theatre of Dreams used to be a real fortress for United, but nowadays, away teams go there believing they can win, and nothing the hosts have done recently on the pitch at Old Trafford would persuade you differently.
Ronaldo’s interview has caught many by surprise and the mentality in the dressing room has been exposed completely.
It’s just not about a single player now but the entire team has been facing the dilemma in terms of their playing style, attitude towards matches, and their eagerness to learn. Everything has been hit hard and someone has to get things back together before it crumbles abruptly.
Will Pochettino do it? Will, there be any new manager in charge, or will Ralf Rangnick himself turn things around, right now everything seems to be a big question?
