Manchester United FC player Jesse Lingard is pondering over his future at the Premier League side with the player reported to spoken to former teammates Chris Smalling and Ashely Young about life in Italy.
Both Smalling and Young had departed the Red Devils over the past season to join Serie A sides AS Roma and Inter Milan respectively. Lingard has suffered a drastic downward spiral in his form and has lost his place in the United lineup.
Moreover, the signing of Bruno Fernandes by Manchester United FC and his terrific performances since joining them has closed the doors for Lingard’s return to the team.
Lingard has attracted interest from fellow Premier League side Arsenal in recent months, with the Gunners monitoring the player’s situation at Old Trafford. However, it seems as if the English midfielder would prefer a move to Italy to play in the Serie A, and recapture his form. Italian side AC Milan are reported to be interested in signing the player, with Lingard himself keen on the move to San Siro.
Smalling joined AS Roma on loan from United last summer and has impressed for the Italian side this season with the defender also having scored crucial goals for his team. The Italian Club are keen on making his transfer permanent and will soon open negotiations for the player with Manchester United FC.
Ashley Young was allowed to join Inter Milan on a free transfer earlier this year, and the player has enjoyed a successful campaign in Italy, compelling Inter coach Antonio Conte to extend his contract for a further 12 months.
Lingard is believed to be allowed to leave the Red Devils in the upcoming transfer window if a right offer is made for the midfielder by any other side. The player does not fit into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for the team. Lingard was a graduate of the famed Red Devils academy and has won many trophies at the club, including the UEFA Europa League in 2016. The player enjoyed a superb showing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. But, he could not carry the same form during his time at United afterwards.
