Jesse Lingard turns down a new deal with Manchester United

England international attacker Jesse Lingard has reportedly turned down a new deal with Manchester United over gametime concerns at Old Trafford.

Lingard did not seek a move away from the club in this summer’s transfer window despite West Ham United being positioned as the frontrunners in the widely-contested race to land his signature.

There had been the talk of The Hammers making a deadline day swoop for the Manchester United man but Lingard is rumoured to have rejected the offer with the hopes of extending his stay with Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side beyond the summer window.

According to reports from The Times, the 28-year-old Lingard has now rebuffed an approach from the United board to pen a new deal with the club as the player seeks regular first-team football in the absence of which he is ready to run down his contract.

Lingard has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and regular minutes on the pitch could be difficult for him this season too with United signing both Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer to bolster the attacking lineup.
