Jesse Lingard’s brother wrote a few harsh comments on Instagram after the Manchester United player was denied an Old Trafford farewell on Monday night.
Lingard was listed among the substitutes for United’s final home game of the season against Brentford, but interim manager Ralf Rangnick chose to leave him on the bench.
Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Edinson Cavani are all set to leave this summer, and they all played against Brentford. With 15 minutes left, Phil Jones was also summoned off the bench, but Lingard stayed seated.
Lingard’s contract with the club he’s played for since childhood expires this summer, and the England international is said to have no intention of renewing his contract with the club after another disappointing season.
After a successful loan spell with West Ham last season, the 29-year-old expected to feature more this season, but he has often been overlooked. Lingard’s brother Louie Scott didn’t hold back on Instagram after witnessing his brother being benched during Monday’s 3-0 win over Brentford.
According to the Manchester Evening News, he wrote on his Instagram story: “20 years of blood sweat, and tears, 4 domestic trophies, 3 cups final goals, not even a farewell. No wonder it’s Conference League next year. “Attacking players for celebrations when the clubs are being sold to the super league ok. Class of 92, Busby Babes, you’re run by people who don’t even know the offside trap. Classless and the fans need to realize. Goodnight, God bless!”
After spending most of his football career with the Red Devils, Lingard’s brother could be forgiven for assuming that his brother deserved the chance to say goodbye to Old Trafford.
United icon Paul Scholes recently disclosed that Lingard informed him the club’s dressing room was a disaster.
Jesse Lingard has appeared in over 230 games for United and scored the game-winning goal in the 2016 FA Cup final, one of the club’s best days since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure. It’s unclear why Rangnick refused to offer Lingard the opportunity to say his final goodbye to the home fans.
