According to the Atheltic, Manchester United director John Murtough has stepped down from his role and is all set to leave Old Trafford this week to create space for a new director.
The 50-year-old will be replaced by Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth once his gardening leave ends in the upcoming months.
The United director has spent ten years at Old Trafford but his future in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s reign was a major doubt. The British billionaire has decided to form a new committee with Newcastle’s Ashworth being handed the role as the new director of football.
Omar Berrada has also joined as the club’s new CEO. He is currently on gardening leave and will leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The Red Devils are also working hard to finalise the arrival of Jason Wilcox as the new technical director. He will leave Championship side Southampton in the upcoming weeks.
Murtough became the club’s first director in 2021 and took over men’s, women’s and academy duties. He had the role of finalising Erik ten Hag’s arrival at Man Utd.
The club is expected to make more changes in the upcoming months as they aim to strengthen their operations off the field. Ratcliffe needs a strong team to sign quality players and help United reach the pinnacle of world football.
There will be a major squad overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window as the new owner wants to build a squad that can challenge for major titles.
The English giants have lost their lustre since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Since then they have been unable to get back to their feet under the Glazers.
