Manchester City centre-back John Stones has defended his fellow English teammate and United centre-back Harry Maguire from recent criticism after his spell of poor performances.
Maguire had been inconsistent for United and has managed to keep just two clean sheets in over 13 appearances this season. His recent performances against Leicester City, Atalanta, Liverpool, and Manchester City have drawn huge flak from fans and pundits.
The English centre-back who was brought for a club-record fee of £80m for a centre-back, has failed to live up to the expectations this season. His teammate John Stones who shared the pitch with Maguire during Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Man United, has supported him during this tough phase.
While having a chat with talkSPORT, he said:
“I don’t want to say that he’s not playing well, because I actually think he’s doing so many things right, but it’s just gets magnified and sometimes taken out of proportion. I am not passing the blame or anything but as a character and person that I know, I do believe that he’ll be the incredible player that he is and be back to that very soon.”
Harry Maguire played really well for England during Euro 2020 and many believed that he will carry his marvellous form in the upcoming season.
Solskjaer has been pairing Maguire with Lindelof in recent matches as his No.1 centre-back Raphael Varane has been sidelined for one month.
