Juan Mata is one of the most experienced players in the Manchester United squad and was one of the best midfielders in the world at his peak. The Spanish veteran surely knows a thing or two about playing in the midfield. In his latest interview with Manchester United’s Official Website, Juan Mata has praised United academy graduate James Garner, who is on-loan at Watford currently.
It was earlier reported that James Garner had joined Watford on-loan earlier this summer in search of more exposure and game-time. He is doing very well at Watford and is expected to come back strong next summer to Old Trafford. In his recent interview, Mata has heaped praise for James Garner after Garner labelled Mata as his favourite teammate.
In his interview, Mata said: “I always thought he is one of the players who, if he keeps going and keeps improving, in the way he was doing in the Academy, he can be a very, very good midfielder. I really like him; the way he plays on the ball, his cleverness, his way of looking forward, looking for a pass and also his attitude off the ball.”
James Garner was one of the best players in the Manchester United academy side and the Premier League 2. He was surely ready for the step up and playing in the Championship will only make him a better player. Manchester United do need a strong central defensive midfielder in the squad and Garner, if he works hard, can be the answer to United’s troubles.
