Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has opened up on his future at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils completed their 2020-21 Premier League season in style in the wake of recording one more away win.
First-half goals from Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata fixed United’s 2-1 triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Donny van de Beek won the penalty not long before half-time, which Mata cooly dispatched to get the points for United.
The 33-year old midfielder’s current contract is set to lapse one month from now and his future at Old Trafford is still in question.
As indicated by the Manchester Evening News, Mata said: “I don’t know, I don’t really know. In three days we have an important game and that’s where my mind is, but I still think I can play good football and give a lot to the team and enjoy for many years playing football like today, that’s my mentality. It is not the moment to speak about it. I know what I want and I’m happy with how I feel physically and mentally. I’m still hungry to play football for some years. The club knows that so let’s see.”
Mata joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2014 and has played multiple times for the club from that point forward. The Spanish player has played only a few games this season. He has been included barely but still managed to score three goals and assisting twice.
With Red Devils hoping to reinforce their squad with additional attacking players in the upcoming summer transfer window, it will be more difficult for him to figure out plentiful game-time at Old Trafford. Manchester United would be in an ideal situation keeping him with a view that he may contribute to the team next season.
His abundance of experience could come as extremely handy for the youths around him, however, he might be quick to switch for a new team if his playing time is compromised for it.
Let’s see how this situation unfolds for Juan Mata and Manchester United.
