Jurrien Timber breaks silence on recent transfer speculations

Manchester United target Jurrien Timber has finally spoken on his recent transfer speculations linking him to a move to England. The Ajax defender has been ferociously targeted by the Erik Ten Hag, who wants to have him in his squad next season.

It has been seen that Ten Hag looks at him as an ideal replacement for the departing full-backs. He suits well to his system and has been instrumental in Ajax’s recent Eredeveise title success.

Timber is known to be a versatile defender as he has played as a centre-back and also as a full-back under Ten Hag. Ajax is still the ideal place for him to develop but he has now claimed that he could move to another club if he is given chance to play regularly.

His future is still not decided and he has a contract with Ajax. The Netherlands international has also been capped for his country and that has increased his price to up to £50m.

Obviously, negotiations will not be an issue if the club is successful in convincing the Ajax board, but that will not be enough to convince Jurrien Timber, as he wants assurance on his chances at a new club.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, he said:

“Of course, I can develop further at Ajax, I am 100 percent sure of that,’ said Timber. I don’t feel like I’m done at the club. But I can also develop at other clubs I am now focusing on the upcoming international matches and then going on holiday.”

“Then I’ll have to think about it some more. In the end, my gut feeling will be the deciding factor. The picture has to be right. You can go to a big club. But if you’re not going to play there, it’s better to stay with Ajax. And Ajax is also a big club.”

Manchester United is trying to remove the deadwood and has hence kept doors open for defenders like Eric Bailly, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, and Phil Jones.

This leaves a void in a squad that needs to be fulfilled by a more promising player who could certainly not waste the club’s wages and show passion to play for the badge.

Jurrien Timber has played over 70 games for Ajax over the past two seasons which shows that he has been able to keep up with the demands of the league.

But one interesting point in this conversation is Timber’s want for development and he has no issues to stay at Ajax if that brings him good progress.
