Napoli center-back Kalidou Koulibaly has explained that he is not interested in jumping ship anytime soon cooling off any speculation linking him with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo anytime in the near future.
The Red Devils have had a disastrous start to the new Premier League campaign and the defeat against Newcastle United on Sunday at St James’ Park pushed them to 12th position on the table with only nine points from eight games. Following their worst start ever since the Premier League era, United are not even looking like they could improve over the next few months unless there are a few more signings at the club in the January winter transfer window.
Manchester United splashed heavily in the summer when they brought in Harry Maguire from Leicester City as the England defender was lured in for £80 million making him the world’s most expensive defender of all time. Although the 26-year-old has improved United’s defense since his arrival at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still unable to win games on a regular basis due to the lack of goalscorers at the club.
The 46-year-old Norwegian has hinted that he is keen on bringing in a few forward players in the January transfer window after letting go of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku but at the same time, he wants another defender to partner Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.
Solskjaer has been keeping tabs on Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly over the past few transfer windows but the Senegalese star has explained that he has no intention of leaving the Italian outfit and he is committed to winning trophies with the Partenopei.
While speaking to reporters earlier this week, the 28-year-old said that his sole focus is just playing for Napoli at the moment, “I’m used to it. So many [stories] come out each day, which say I’m leaving, Right now, my only objective is to win with Napoli. I don’t care about the rest.”
Koulibaly also went on to add that he intends to dethrone Juventus to beat them for the Serie A title as well as qualify for the Champions League with Napoli, “Our objective remains to beat the best teams in Italy and win the title. This season is more difficult because all the teams have got stronger and Serie A has become more competitive. I haven’t made the best start to the season. Juventus remain the team to beat. For our part, we must work even harder, improving our game to get closer to them. Our objective is to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage as soon as possible. We started well by beating Liverpool with top performance. We regret not beating Genk, but that’s football. We must think positively and be aware that we can do well. My objective is to help the club and team win a trophy now.”
