Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has spoken on his future amid interest from Manchester United this summer. The German keeper has admitted that he had received a written letter from the Red Devils regarding a move but he has rejected the opportunity to join United.
The 32-year-old star has a big name in Germany and much credit goes to his heroic performance for his team against the Rangers in the Europa League final win last season.
Trapp had originally joined the Bundesliga side in 2012 but he moved to Paris Saint Germain in 2015. He returned to Frankfurt after four years in France and has since been a regular player for Oliver Glasner’s side.
Speaking to German publications Bild, the German shot-stopper has revealed that he has rejected a move to Old Trafford as he wants to continue his career in Germany.
He said:
” It’s true that a written offer was made. Manchester United is a worldwide club. Yesterday I told the powers that be at both clubs that I have decided in favour of Eintracht.”
The Europa League winner will be another high-profile player who has rejected the chance to provide competition for David de Gea at United. Erik ten Hag wants to add more cover in defence and the manager wants to sign a backup keeper in order to give him more options.
However, with the World Cup around the corner, it is getting increasingly difficult to convince a goalkeeper to take up the backup role. Swiss star Yann Sommer had rejected a transfer because of a similar reason.
Currently, there are reports emerging that the Red Devils have submitted a loan proposal to Newcastle United to secure the signing of Martin Dubravka. It would be interesting to see whether any keeper moves in through the doors of the theatre of dreams.
