Any club looking to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the near future will need to fork out more than £120 million, according to Lazio president Claudio Lotito.
The midfielder has had a strong start to the year, scoring three goals and dishing out seven assists in nine Serie A games to move Lazio up to the third place. The 27-year-old’s contract expires in 2024, therefore clubs are sure to show interest in him over the next transfer windows.
After failing to sign priority transfer target Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, the Daily Mail claims that United intensively sought Milinkovic-Savic this summer. It is likely that the Serbian defensive midfielder is still on Manchester United’s radar this summer.
In an effort to reject offers from United and Juventus, Lazio’s president has now stated that the price tag for the Serbian player will climb each month. As reported by the Daily Mail, he said:
“I have no agreement with his agent [Mateja] Kezman to sell him to Juventus or anyone else in the winter. On the contrary, he is now worth €120m [£105m], not €100m [£88m]. Every month the price goes up.”
It seems that £120m is a lot to pay for United if they can get their hands on Frenkie de Jong at a lower price. It would be intriguing to see what direction the Red Devils go if they decide to pursue another midfielder in the following transfer windows.
For now, Lazio will need to lower their price or face losing Milinkovic-Savic for free if he doesn’t sign a contract extension.
