Leicester City 2-2 Manchester United Match Report | EPL 2020-21

The Red Devils squandered an opportunity to go second in the league standings as a late equalising goal from Jamie Vardy meant that the high-billed showdown at the King Power Stadium finished 2-2.

A strong starting XI at hand for the visitors, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men had a great chance to take the lead just two minutes into the game when Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant first time cross into the box was headed off target by the lurking Marcus Rashford.

On the other end of the pitch, Vardy was proving to be a menace to deal with for the United backline as the Foxes talisman got a couple of chances to trouble David de Gea but to no avail.

The visitors did take the lead in the 23rd minute as a great linkup play between Daniel James and Fernandes led to Rashford getting a one-on-one Kasper Schmeichel and the English international did not spurn the opportunity to find the back of the net this time.

Leicester City’s response to going behind was quite solid, with the Foxes going all out on their attacking endeavours, finally being rewarded when a thumping strike from Harvey Barnes turned out to be too powerful for De Gea to palm away.

Following the start of the second half, United amped up the pressure on Brendan Rodger’s side as the Rashford and Martial pairing found themselves within touching distance of putting their side in the lead once again.

But Kasper Schmeichel’s quality save of Rashford’s strike and Martial’s position being deemed offside meant that the game was still level at 1-1 with nearly 30 minutes still left to play for.

Edinson Cavani was brought off the bench by Solskjaer, a common sight these days, and the Uruguayan had an instant impact as he set up Fernandes for United’s second goal of the game.

However, just as the Red Devils thought they had secured all three points in the bag to leap to the second spot in the Premier League table, a familiar foe in Vardy turned up to play spoilsport as he tucked in a cross from Ayoze Perez, which caught a massive deflection from substitute Tuanzebe and bundled into the back of the net to level the scoreline.
