Leicester City eye Donny Van de Beek as Youri Tielemans replacement

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek has reportedly been targeted by Leicester City.

Manager Brendan Rodgers referred to the summer’s transfer window as “disastrous” while speaking about it following Monday night’s 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

The club’s inability to sign their preferred targets and witness players like Kasper Schmeichel and Wesley Fofana leaving the King Power Stadium came under huge criticism.

Positively, Leicester was able to keep Youri Tielemans even though it is generally believed that his contract will only last until next summer.

Leicester will need a like-for-like replacement for the Belgian international, who will either leave for a bargain price in January or for free later in 2023.

The team from the East Midlands might try to broker a move for out-of-favor United player Van de Beek.

Since his transfer from Ajax to England in 2020, the Netherlands international has had a really frustrating time in England.

Despite having a price tag of £35 million, Van de Beek has only started four Premier League games for United and has made a total of 23 appearances across all competitions.

Van de Beek has played just 19 minutes in three Premier League games this season, despite being reunited with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

Although it should be emphasised that the player has also missed time due to injury, if United receive an appropriate offer in January, they are not likely to block the player.

According to the rumour, Leicester may look at signing Van van Beek on a temporary basis at the start of 2023 before possibly signing him permanently for £13 million.
