Lingard has told Solksjaer that he wishes to stay at United next season

Jesse Lingard has reportedly told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he wishes to stay at Manchester United next season.

The English midfielder didn’t contribute much for Manchester United in the Premier League last season and was rightly loaned to West Ham in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old surprised everyone by his performances at the London Stadium, finishing the season with nine goals and four assists in only 16 Premier League appearances to help the Hammers to earn European qualification. David Moyes has been hugely impressed and wants him to stay. 

His form gifted him a recall to the England squad for the March World Cup qualifiers. He did miss out in the current Euro squad as Gareth Southgate had plenty of attacking options.

West Ham is pushing to convince Lingard to sign a permanent deal with them, however as indicated by the Sun, the United academy graduate has as of late held a meeting with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and revealed it to him that he is ‘like to stay at his childhood club.

The report says that he hasn’t ‘precluded’ an exit, however, his aim is to improve his career at United. Regardless of whether he will be able to make it to the starting XI will be a doubt.

Red Devils are expected to complete a deal for Jadon Sancho, while Bruno Fernandes has made the number 10 job his own since he joined United in January 2020. Lingard right now has a year left on his current contract at Old Trafford and has likewise been linked to moves away to Everton and Leicester.

Solksjaer and his management will be hoping to include Lingard in their plans. Lingard will still be connected to West Ham and these links can’t be ignored.
