Luke Shaw happy to play again for England after a long time

Luke Shaw has admitted that his return to the England squad for the Euro 2020 makes him increasingly grateful.

Luke Shaw had a poor run of form in 2018 under the helm of Jose Mourinho and even suffered a long-term injury. Due to his fitness issues and poor form, he was not included in the England World Cup squad two years back.

His last appearance for England came way back in September 2018 against Spain. His return to the squad this year proves that he has come a long way in improving his form.

Luke Shaw while talking to the club’s official website said: It’s extremely special to be able to make the 26-man squad. If you look at this time last year, speaking about England, I wouldn’t have been mentioned by anyone or by Gareth and at the start of the season, there was an aim to get back into the England squad. I was young and a bit naive. And I think sometimes when I was in that situation I didn’t realize how big it was, the fact that I was here at a tournament. Young lads, nowadays they just go with it and I think maybe I did at that time. Now to be a part of this squad, I’m a bit more mature and understand things a lot better now, so massive pride and so proud to be able to be in a 26-man squad going to represent England, that’s the highest level you can get in my opinion in football and I’m just very grateful and massively looking forward to it.”

Luke Shaw deserves the place in the squad. His form has improved immensely under Ole Gunnar Solkjaer. This year he had created the most chances than any other player in the Premier League.

Gareth Southgate was quick to add the player in the starting eleven and he along with Maguire will be the main defenders for England. He will hope to continue at the same level for the England Squad.

His form will be crucial for United next season as they look to cement their place as the best team in England.
