Luke Shaw opens up on his relationship with Mourinho at United

Luke Shaw has revealed that he had a mixed relation with Jose Mourinho during the manager’s time at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw was one of those players who didn’t get the manager’s praise. He was played rarely and the manager criticized him whenever he wanted to. Another player who felt the same issue was Paul Pogba. But Pogba was still given a chance.

Shaw had a completely different relationship with Mourinho. He didn’t get enough game time and it was looking as if he is not part of the manager’s plans. Mourinho should choose Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, or Ashley Young ahead of him. He was injured too and struggling with his fitness as well.

Luke Shaw while talking to SPORTbible, said: “It was sort of a mixed relationship. Sometimes he went about it the right way, and I think a lot of people would agree with that. People know our relationship wasn’t the best. I think it was quite easy to see that from the outside, but I think one thing that Jose did do was make me mentally much stronger. But I would probably use ‘mental strength’ to describe the period under Jose Mourinho.”

Obviously, Mourinho was having a not-so-pleasant relation with Shaw but one name which was great to hear is Mauricio Pochettino. Luke Shaw praised Pocchetino for helping him improve his game. It’s no secret that Luke Shaw once played under the guidance of Pochettino during his time at Southampton in the second half of the 2012-13 season.

Maybe we can thank Pochettino for helping Shaw to believe in himself.

Luke Shaw is a different player now. Last season he had created the most chances in the Premier League which proves that he has worked immensely on his fitness and playing style. We hope that he will continue his great form for Manchester United and England.
