Maddison Should Reject United According To Stuart Pearce

England legend Stuart Pearce believes that Leicester City star James Maddison should reject Manchester United if they come calling in the January transfer window.

Maddison was called up to England national team by Gareth Southgate but will have been disappointed not to make his international debut. He had a brilliant debut season in the Premier League last season and has been linked with Spurs and Manchester United recently

It’s understood United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward made an approach for Maddison in June, but Leicester’s £80million asking price for the England international put the Red Devils off a potential deal.

But former Nottingham Forest and Manchester City defender Stuart Pearce believes that the best option for Maddison at this stage of his career would be to remain at Leicester City.

‘I think from his point of view at this moment in time, he’s working with a wonderful manager in Brendan Rodgers,’ Pearce told Sky Sports’ The Debate. ‘I think it’s perfect for him to stay in Leicester. I wouldn’t suggest that he leaves Leicester at the moment. He’s probably started the season as good and as strong as he has ever been as a footballer.

‘For me, I think he’s got to stay put. ‘Will he be an asset to other teams if he keeps improving? Yes, he will. ‘But I think at this moment in time, for his sake, he’s better off at Leicester.’

Leicester City have had an impressive start to the season and occupy the third spot in the League table while Manchester United sit on eight spot on the League table
