The latest reports have claimed that Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is worried that the possible arrival of Harry Maguire at Old Trafford could mean the end of his time at the Theatre of Dreams.
Premier League giants Manchester United suffered quite a torrid season last term as they finished in sixth place in the Premier League table far from the summit. The Red Devils are in dire need of reinforcements in the summer and they need to bolster their defense for the upcoming season if they are to get any better.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on making a big summer acquisition for the backline and the Norwegian has been linked with a move for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire over the past few weeks. The links are quite solid and Manchester United are eyeing up a move for the 26-year-old with a few some reports claiming that the Reds are prepared to splash out the £80 million price tag the Foxes have slapped on Maguire
After the 1-0 win over Inter Milan on Sunday in a preseason fixture, Solskjaer pretty much confirmed that Swede Victor Lindelof will be his first choice center back for the upcoming season. If Maguire arrives at Old Trafford, the Englishman will certainly be part of the first team mix but that could mean the end of the road for Ivorian defender Eric Bailly at Old Trafford.
Chris Smalling’s future has already been secured while his English partner Phil Jones signed a contract extension earlier this year. Even Argentine defender Marcos Rojo signed a new deal in last summer just before his contract was set to expire and his £20 million price tag at the moment has put off quite a few European suitors if United are keen on selling him.
This leaves Eric Bailly as the odd one out among the bunch central defenders at United as the 25-year-old is entering his final 12 months of his current contract with United. Bailly is reportedly worried that his time at Manchester United could be coming to an end following his injury and Solskjaer will look to offload the defender this summer and generate some revenue for new arrivals with his sale.
Bailly was signed at Manchester United by Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho back in the summer of 2016 from La Liga side Villarreal in a £30 million deal but injuries have hampered his growth over the past 18 months or so putting him out of the first team.
