Manchester United is aiming to negotiate a reduced transfer package to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mount has been identified as the Red Devils’ priority target, as manager Erik ten Hag looks to bolster the team’s creativity from the midfield next season.
While personal terms have already been agreed upon with the English player, Man United still needs to finalize a transfer fee with Chelsea in order to secure his signature.
In a discussion on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, David Ornstein revealed that Chelsea is reportedly expecting an upfront payment of £70 million for Mount, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons.
However, United is aiming for a compromise and hopes to negotiate a deal for around £55 million for the talented midfielder.
The Red Devils have a history of overpaying for transfer targets in recent years, such as their £85 million payout for Antony last summer. They now find themselves in a similar situation with Mason Mount.

The club should not exceed a fee of £55 million for Mount, especially considering his contract is set to expire next summer.
Chelsea is currently reluctant to lower their asking price. But as the financial year end approaches on June 30, the Blues may become more desperate to generate funds and could potentially reconsider their stance.
The Blues would likely want to recoup the highest possible fee from player sales.
In order to secure the Chelsea academy graduate, Man United may need to be patient and wait for a potential decrease in the West Londoner’s demands, especially given Mount’s eagerness to move to Old Trafford.
