Man United board must be kicking themselves for not signing Luis Diaz

Manchester United failed to make any new signings in the January transfer window.

And now the club may come to regret after it was revealed that one of Ralf Rangnick’s targets, who has been thriving since his arrival in the Premier League, had signed with a tough competitor.

On Deadline Day, Liverpool bought Luis Diaz from Porto for £37 million on a five-and-a-half-year deal, after Fabrizio Romano reported that the German interim coach had been denied the chance to sign the winger.

Rangnick’s player wish-list was dismissed in January, and the Man United board must be kicking themselves for not signing the Columbian forward. And now Diaz has made a significant impact since his move to Liverpool.

In less than five months since joining Liverpool, the 21-goal striker, who is now valued at £60 million, has established himself as a starter, displacing Diogo Jota and scoring five goals and three assists. He has a better goal contribution than Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga in less than half a season.

Luis Diaz has also created two big chances per game, averaging 1.5 key passes per game, as well as being successful in the majority of his dribbles and completing an average pass accuracy of 88 percent.

He has showed that he is not afraid to impose himself on his opponents, links up play well, and has become an absolute nightmare for anyone he faces.

With Rashford struggling to hit the ground running this season and rumours rising about the winger’s future, Diaz would have been the ideal successor if the Manchester United forward left this summer.

United’s board of directors and Erik ten Hag cannot afford to lose out on another player of this kind, and they must discover more talented young players this summer who can make an effect equal to Diaz’s at Liverpool this season.

This could have a major impact in their bid to compete for the UEFA Champions League next season.
