Manchester United defender Harry Maguire feels that the club is not content with challenging for the Champions League spots because their primary aim is to win titles. The Englishman also stated that United are on the right track to achieve that target.
Despite being the dominant force in the Premier League under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils have failed to top the top-flight table since the Scotsman departed in 2013.
Dutch manager Louis van Gaal steered Man United to FA Cup triumph in 2015 and Portuguese head coach Jose Mourinho masterminded an EFL Cup and Europa League double the following year.
Man United sat in fifth place, three points adrift of Chelsea in fourth, when the coronavirus outbreak suspended football indefinitely. Maguire, who arrived from Leicester City in a record £80million transfer in August, believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the ingredients and team on course to return to the top of English football.
In a conversation with Sky Sports, the 26-year-old centre back revealed that United are getting better under Solskjaer and the team is moving forward, “I think you can see from the start of the season, we look a lot more like a team. You can see where we want to go, where we want to head, I knew when I first came to Man United, Ole said to me loads and loads that it’s a building process but we will get to where we want to be. I can see where we are heading and the style that he wants to implement on our team.”

Maguire further explained that there are a number of things needed to be done for United to reach the summit and Champions League spots are not good enough as the stature of the club demands trophies, “Don’t get me wrong, there are still plenty of aspects we need to improve upon to get to the top, which is where we want to be. We don’t want to be challenging for Champions League spots, we want to be challenging for titles. We know there is still a lot of improvement to get there, but we are on the right track. I’m sure we will eventually get there.”
