Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar hopes that the Red Devils need only a few more signings in the right areas to get back to the summit of English football.
The 20-time English champions haven’t tasted success in the Premier League ever since the 2012-13 season under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Following the Scotsman’s retirement in 2013, the Red Devils have fallen from grace at a rapid rate allowing rivals Man City and Liverpool to race ahead.
The Man United enthusiasts have been forced to accept an extremely frustrating transitional period under a number of new managers including current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, it appeared that there were signs of a possible return to the glory days since the turn of the year as the club went 11 games without defeat in all competitions. Unfortunately, the coronavirus outbreak in the UK halted football at a time when United were gaining momentum.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar believes that things are finally starting to fall into place again for the Old Trafford outfit and recently spoke to CNN by stating that the rocky patch might have to an end. The Dutchman also explained that United might need a few players recruited in the summer transfer window to bolster their squad to compete against Liverpool and Man City, “The honeymoon period [under Solskjaer] was great. Then they hit a rocky patch and I think the last seven, eight, nine weeks, they’ve been playing better football. The points were coming in. They had some good results against good teams also. Of course, for them, I hope that the league is going to resume because they probably will need those Champions League places. I think the main thing for them is to focus on the next season and hopefully, with two or three additions, they’ll be competitive again to Liverpool and Manchester City.”
