Man United are said to be eyeing up Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans as alternatives to Frenkie de Jong should he stay put with Barcelona beyond this summer’s transfer window.
The Dutch midfield maestro remains a priority target for the Old Trafford camp with the new head coach Eric ten Hag keen to reinforce his options in the centre of the park by landing the former Ajax starlet De Jong.
Barcelona, however, appear reluctant to part ways with De Jong this summer despite the Catalan club’s ever-increasing issues on the financial front and the player himself is cold on the idea of making the move to the Premier League.
According to a report from Manchester Evening News, United could be forced to shift their attention to Premier League midfield duo Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans with both players understood to have featured on United’s shopping list for some time.
Tielemans, who heads into the final 12 months of his terms with Leicester City, can be made available to Ten Tag for a knockdown fee of around £30 million while Wolves maestro Neves presents himself as another viable option to bolster the midfield ranks.
