Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has opened up on who is to be blamed for his injury troubles last season.

The English star has made it to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man final squad for the upcoming Euros in Germany.

The 28-year-old made just 15 appearances for the Red Devils last campaign. His final appearance for Ten Hag’s side came against Premier League foes Luton Town in February.

However, he has not been able to perform at the highest level and his frustration has been evident by his recent interview. He was asked about his injury crisis and what went wrong with his recovery.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, the senior defender said:

I felt something against Aston Villa and came off at half-time. I didn’t train the whole week and when the scan came back, there wasn’t too much there.

I then trained the day before the game (at Luton) – and if the manager asks me to play, I’m never going to say ‘no.’ But I shouldn’t have played. It’s kind of everyone’s fault. Partly my fault, partly the medical staff. I think everyone would admit that.

Shaw was not happy by the manager’s decision of forcing him into the starting XI even if he was slowly progressing back to full fitness. This cost him a place in the team’s FA Cup starting XI.

He will be gutted to miss the chance of defeating their fierce rivals Manchester City. However, he was surprisingly picked up by Southgate as the manager placed his trust in the Man United left-back.

The versatile star has been an important player for the Three Lions in their previous International tournaments.

Shaw will be unable to feature in England’s first group-stage match but the manager is hopeful that the player will return for their second group-stage match against Denmark on June 20.

The fans were puzzled by the fact that the defender was selected for England even if he had an unsuccessful season with Man United. However, the player believes that he is close to returning from the injury and he deserves a spot in the nation’s final squad.
