Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in signing AS Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni for the upcoming season.
United are eager to bring the Frenchman to Old Trafford, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. Liverpool, the second club rumoured to be interested in the player, will be a tough competitor. Next summer, Ornstein anticipates an “intense battle” to gain his signature.
The 21-year-old is one of the best young midfielders in the world and has already earned a spot in France’s national squad. Tchouaméni resembles Fernandinho in many respects, and might even be called a modern-day Fernandinho.
Tchouaméni, playing as a pure defensive midfielder, can dribble forward and out of tight spaces. His ability to understand the game and maintain his composure allows him to detect the danger early and eliminate any threat.
At the moment, United do not have a midfielder with Tchouaméni’s profile. A player like him in the midfield might immensely improve the club by providing a fresh dynamic player.
Tchouaméni would be a risk-free move for United, who still have to sign their permanent manager.
Under rumoured target Erik ten Hag, the Frenchman may help promote a more possession-based style or a more press-oriented approach similar to Rangnick’s. If United are looking for a midfielder next summer, the 21-year-old should be first on their list.
