Man United interested in signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona

Manchester United is willing to offer €55 million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Catalan publication El Nacional.

In Barcelona, Frenkie de Jong has taken on a more prominent role. The Dutchman is expected to be Sergio Busquets’ long-term replacement. In recent seasons, he has put in some strong performances for the Catalan team. His deep-lying playmaking position, however, makes him even more significant.

However, the Blaugrana board of directors has chosen to sell him in order to acquire finances. Due to a lack of cash, Barcelona remains a debt-ridden club, and any holistic upgrade to the squad remains a dream. In such a situation, the board has been forced to hunt for buyers due to the 24-year-old midfielder’s recent dip in performance.

The player has recently been linked with Manchester United. Ed Woodward’s board is rumoured to be willing to pay €55 million for the Dutch midfielder’s services.

A deep-lying midfielder is desperately needed by United. Defensive midfield issues have contributed to some of their recent poor performances. Despite some amazing saves from David De Gea, the Red Devils have recently allowed a number of simple goals. This could be due to a lack of sufficient cover and a deep-lying duty.

However, it appears that new manager Xavi wants to keep the former Ajax star. It could be a source of concern for the Red Devils, who may soon find themselves in need of a trustworthy midfielder.

The FC Barcelona board is likewise thought to value De Jong higher than the offered sum. As a result, if the Manchester board makes a more compelling offer, they may be inclined to let the player go.
