Man United name three new contenders for October Player of the Month Award

As revealed by the club’s official website, Manchester United have put forward Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, and Andre Onana as nominees for the October Player of the Month award.

This selection comes amid a mixed start to the season for the Red Devils, which continued in the same vein during this month.

Their October began with a disappointing 3-2 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League, followed by a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brentford in the league at Old Trafford.

After the international break, the club managed to secure two narrow wins against Sheffield United and Copenhagen, with the latter featuring Onana’s crucial penalty save in stoppage time.

United’s momentum couldn’t be sustained as they faced a 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby. Based on their recent performances, the club has nominated Maguire, McTominay, and Onana for this month’s Player of the Month award.

In our opinion, the right choices have been made by the club and its fans. Maguire has been a consistent starter for the Red Devils, especially in the absence of Lisandro Martinez.

The English centre-back provided a crucial assist for McTominay’s winning goal against Brentford and delivered an outstanding performance, earning the Man of the Match title, in the game against Sheffield.

Furthermore, the former captain scored the decisive goal in the Champions League clash against Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, McTominay has unexpectedly become United’s primary goal-scoring threat in the attacking third. He made a significant impact by scoring two stoppage-time goals as a substitute in the thrilling 2-1 victory over Brentford.

The Scottish midfielder also contributed with another goal in the 2-1 win at Bramall Lane.

Also, Onana has managed to redeem himself after some goalkeeping errors in previous matches against Galatasaray and Brentford.

He made crucial saves in the victory over Sheffield and notably saved a last-minute penalty against Copenhagen, securing the English giants’s first win in the Champions League campaign.

In the Manchester derby, despite conceding three goals, the African shot-stopper prevented the opposition from converting more chances. The Cameroonian star made seven crucial saves, three of which denied Erling Haaland.

While all three nominated players are deserving of the award, we believe that Onana is likely to receive the highest number of votes from fans due to his standout performances for the club since the October international break.
