Man United on alert as AC Milan star Frank Kessie rejects contract

Manchester United’s search for a new defensive midfielder could be over as their secret target Frank Kessie has rejected a new contract offer from AC Milan.

Man United is currently looking for a new midfielder after Fred’s recent performances and the United hierarchy are looking to sign a top-class defensive midfielder which would be the final piece of their puzzle.

As reported by Daily Mail, United’s target Frank Kessie had been offered a contract worth £6.5m a year by the Serie A giants. But the midfielder is holding out for a much bigger contract worth £9m a year.

Frank Kessie has played 196 games for AC Milan and has directly contributed to 47 goals. Due to this, the Ivory Coast midfielder has attracted interest from top clubs like Barcelona, PSG, and Manchester United. His contract is set to expire next summer and many clubs are waiting to snatch him for free.

Kessie would be free to sign a pre-contract with any club in the month of January and AC Milan would not be pleased if they lose him for free. However, AC Milan’s manager Stefano Pioli wanted his star midfielder to stay and recently spoke about this issue.

He said: “I would like Kessie to sign. The negotiations go on between the club and his agent, and I don’t think it’s time to worry. With Franck, I only talk about matters relating to the pitch and I always see him as positive and serene, there are no problems.”

Tottenham had previously offered a deal worth £128,000 per week to Frank Kessie as Spurs director Fabio Paritici met with the player’s agent. However, the deal fell through.

Manchester United has a perfect chance to steal the AC Milan star for free. The club is also keeping a close eye on other defensive midfielders like Declan Rice, Ruben Neves, and Aurélien Tchouaméni.
