Man United starlet Charlie Savage set to complete permanent move to Reading

Manchester United starlet Charlie Savage is close to finalizing a permanent transfer to League One club Reading, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

United will include a notable sell-on fee, ensuring that they receive a percentage of any potential future transfer fee if the midfielder is sold again. Additionally, the Red Devils will retain the option to match any offer made for Savage in the future.

Savage, who happens to be the son of former footballer Robbie Savage, has progressed through the club’s youth system.

Last season, he was loaned out to Forest Green Rovers, where he played in 15 matches, but unfortunately, the club faced relegation to League Two.

Recently, he had the honour of captaining Man United during their 2-0 victory over Leeds in a match held in Oslo last Wednesday.

The 20-year-old talent may face challenges breaking into United’s first team due to intense competition for positions.

Recent signings such as Mason Mount and the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo have pushed Savage further down the pecking order, making it sensible for him to continue his development elsewhere, where he can gain valuable playing time.

Moving to Reading presents an opportunity for Savage to enhance his skills and gain experience in senior football.

United are showing a strong interest in his growth by including two important clauses in the deal. These clauses are similar to those used in previous transfers, such as selling Zidane Iqbal (40%) and Ethan Laird (25%) earlier in the summer.

Moreover, they recently earned £1 million from Tahith Chong’s transfer to Luton Town from Birmingham City in a £4 million deal, having included a 25% sell-on clause when the youngster was offloaded to the Blues last year.

This demonstrates that United are willing to allow their young talents to leave the club if it means they can potentially benefit financially from their future moves.
