Manchester United returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
The win sees them move to the 7th spot on the league table. It brings a sense of calmness to a disrupted week where they lost to Bournemouth by a goal to nil.
Andreas Pereira opened the scoring after his shot deflected past Dale Stephens and landed in the goal. They doubled the scoring shortly after as Scott McTominay scraped the ball into the goal after there appeared to be a scramble following a regular corner.
Brighton had close chances to come back into the game and Lewis Dunk made it 2-1 via a corner in the 64th minute.
Marcus Rashford made it 3-1 in quick succession following a quick break and decisive passing from Frenchman Anthony Martial. He squandered a couple of sitters later but United won with ease in the end.
De Gea – 6.5
Had no involvement of importance in the game apart from the goal scored by Lewis Dunk. Couldn’t have done better as the centre half scored from close range. Distribution good and positioning also fine.
Wan Bissaka – 7
Really solid performance from the Three Lions international. Provided cover for Daniel James and linked up well with the youngster. Timed certain tackles to perfection and is now needs to improve his attacking and crossing game.
Lindelof – 6.5
Pretty average display from the Swede. Handled the likes of Connolly and Murray really well. Can enhance his passing. Long balls lacked range and accuracy at times.
Maguire – 7
Good game from the number 5. Shielded the ball and never let in any big time trouble for De Gea. Was involved in the scramble that led to the second goal. Won most of his aerial duels and intercepted the ball often.
Williams – 7.5
The youngster had a debut to remember. Should’ve scored after running the length of the field in attack but only saw his shot saved by Ryan in the end. Wasn’t involved much in the start but his presence improved as he became comfortable with the ball. Booked for a nasty challenge.
McTominay – 7
First it appeared as his goal but was later awarded as a Davy Propper own goal. Another solid display from holding midfield. Was really composed and concentrated to win the ball back and link defence into attack.
Fred – 7
Much much improved. The string of performances lately have shown that the Brazilian has got good calibre and is confident about his game. The price tag seems to be worthy and that he should cement his place with these industrious displays.
Pereira – 8
Excellent game from the Brazilian. Attacked the ball well and his efficiency boosted up after the goal. Could’ve done a bit better with slick trick and run at goal. Was substituted after low involvement in the second half.
James – 8
‘The kids going miles’. Doesn’t look like a player who just moved from the Championship to one of the biggest clubs in the world. The 22 year old is surely settled now. Created a host of chances and set up an open net only for Marcus Rashford to miss.
Martial – 8 MoTM
The Frenchman gets the man of the match after a neat display also bagging two simple assists. Created much trouble for the Seagulls’ CB pairing of Dunk and Duffy. Relentlessly attacked the goal and was in thick of attack every time united moved the ball in the final third.
Rashford – 7
‘From Sublime to Disastrous’ – The striker scored from a difficult position after a brilliant counter attack. Then the England striker missed a couple of sitters which on a regular day he wouldn’t even think of not scoring from.
Substitutes –
Lingard – 6
Came in for Pereira at the 70th minute mark but wasn’t involved much in his cameo.
Rojo – N/A
Greenwood – N/A
