According to the Record, Manchester United are willing to break their transfer record to land Benfica sensation Joao Neves this summer.
The Portuguese midfielder has been in the spotlight for all the right reasons. United’s scouters were keeping an eye on him in his parent club’s 2-2 draw against Sporting in the Taca de Portugal last night.
They are impressed by the 18-year-old’s exceptional talent and are pushing to sign him in the upcoming months. Neves has a lot of admirers and hence, his release clause will be a huge talking point.
Benfica will be happy to gain maximum profit through his sale and won’t budge on their £100 million asking price.
However, United are willing to offer more than €100m and are even ready to break their transfer record if they can get their star player.

Neves has taken the Primeira Liga by storm this season. He has completed 90 per cent of his passes and completed 72 per cent of his long balls.
He has also been a solid figure in defense with 6.7 ball recoveries and 6.2 duels per game. Many believe that he can form an excellent pairing with United’s very own prodigy Kobbie Mainoo.
Bruno Fernandes has also praised the Benfica defensive midfielder for possessing maturity beyond his years. With such a crazy fan following, there will be increased competition among clubs to sign him.
Man United have a reason to go after a young midfield ace. Casemiro has not been at his best this campaign. He has been injury prone and his future at the club beyond this season remains uncertain.

Hence, it would be better for the club to avoid any risk and sign a long-term successor for the Brazilian. Neves fits the bill perfectly as a young dynamic player who can add a lot of value to the team for years to come.
However, it remains to be seen whether Benfica are ready to accept United’s proposal and accept a lower fee for their wonderkid.
