Man United’s pursuit of Darwin Nunez has hit a major stumbling block

Manchester United is among the clubs interested in signing Darwin Nunez of Benfica this summer but their pursuit of signing the young striker has hit a major stumbling block.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future uncertain and Edinson Cavani’s contract expiring this summer, the Red Devils are hunting for a striker. Nunez is a major target for United, which is looking for a young and promising center-forward for the future.

The Uruguayan striker had a fantastic season in the Portuguese top flight, scoring 20 goals and adding two assists. However, his remarkable play in the Champions League, where he scored against top clubs such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Ajax, drew more attention.

Darwin Nunez has caught the attention of European heavyweights, and Benfica may find it difficult to keep hold of him beyond this summer. To part ways with the former Penarol star, the Portuguese team would demand roughly £60 million this summer.

But according to the Telegraph, United’s pursuit of the Uruguayan has met a stumbling block since the striker will only move to Old Trafford if United can ensure a place in the Champions League next season.

Manchester United’s chances of finishing in the Premier League’s top four look very slim as they sit sixth in the table and have played more games than Arsenal.

The Red Devils are also rumored to be keeping an eye on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, with the possibility of making a blockbuster summer deal. However, he will not come for a cheaper price.

Darwin Nunez is also targetted by Arsenal, who are poised to finish in the top four this season, and La Liga giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who are both interested in bringing him to Spain.
