Manchester United’s pursuit of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has received a major boost. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Serbian midfielder could leave but only for a non-Italian club.
The solid defensive midfielder has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford but has remained in Italy for the previous seven years after failing to secure a transfer.
Despite this, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season and his value steadily declining, this summer may be the time for fans to finally see the 27-year-old leave.
Since joining Lazio from Genk in 2015, Milinkovic-Savic has appeared in 293 appearances across all competitions, directly contributing to 109 goals.
As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Maurizio Sarri said:
“Speaking to the President, I have become convinced that if Milinkovic does leave, and that will not happen easily, he will not remain in Italy.”
Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri: "I'm not sure that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will leave this summer as it's not easy… but I'm convinced that if it happens, Milinkovic will sign for a foreign club and not an Italian one". 👀🇷🇸 #transfers
Lazio want more than €70m for Milinkovic.

It has been said that he could be signed for a fee of around £70m but that depends on the negotiations. Savic has been a consistent player for Lazio and he also scored the winning goal in the previous match against Juventus.
Although he didn’t win a Scudetto with Lazio, he would love to raise a trophy with a foreign club. Erik Ten Hag has already made Frenkie de Jong his preferred midfield target. But recent reports suggest that the Barcelona midfielder wants to play Champions League football.
As things stand, Ten Hag would be trying his best to convince De Jong to sign for Manchester United. But if things don’t go as per the plans, then Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be their final option.
