Phil Jones made his first start of this season against Tottenham. Jones had to leave the game in the 58th minute due to his hamstring injury. The suspected injury made him quit the game in between that led to Lindelof taking his place. The former Blackburn Rovers defender was looking good until then.
Jones made his first appearance in defence along with the versatile duo of Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera. The trio did a laudable job in the first half with blocking forwards’ of the opposition. They gave no chance to Spurs and it looked like the defence has strengthened it’s problems and overcome it’s weakness. But it was not long after the first half that United showed a replay of what they have been doing in past few matches. With giving space in the box and clear shooting options, problems started growing.
The problems only grew further for United as on 58th minute Jones had to walk into the tunnel struggling to a hamstring injury. The England international’s evening ended in frustration when his injury update joined with Manchester’s loss.
Manchester will be facing Burnley this Sunday afternoon and it would be a treat, if we are able to watch Jones back in action.
