Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United: 3 Significant Lessons From The Manchester Derby

Manchester United defeat Manchester City 1-0 at Etihad as battle ensured between this two heavyweight. Both sides aimed each other scalp with the eye for a win as a place in the Carabao Cup was all for grabs in the contest.

It promised a scintillating 90 minutes of football and it lived up to its billing in all ramifications. Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted with his side performance even as they exit the Carabao Cup 2-3 on aggregate.

Following Manchester City’s advantage with a 1-3 win away at Old Trafford in the first leg. On this note, we evaluate three significant lessons we learned from the match.

City Advance To The Final

Despite Manchester United’s 0-1 win at the Etihad, it was the home side that progressed despite the defeat. It looks some minutes past the half-hour mark for United to take the lead from a resultant set-piece that was floated into the City’s box.

This ensured the match endured an interesting end with the hope of a United comeback, all to no avail as the Sky Blues side prevailed over the Red Devils in the contest based on the aggregate score (2-3).

Manchester City was Wasteful

The home side has got the first leg to rely on to make it through to the final. The City side was beaten 0-1 by arch-rivals Manchester United despite of dominating proceedings for the entirety of the match.

How about that for a miss as Raheem Sterling missed a glorious chance to give his side a goal in the game.

Though Aguero scored and his goal was disallowed but the Sky Blues side should have done better in attack as they squandered a couple of chances with the goal at their mercy.

De Gea was Impressive

The Spanish shot-stopper was impressive in front of goal as Manchester City threw a flaming dart at him. He made crucial saves from the Citizens particularly from prolific forward Sergio Aguero who kept on testing Manchester United’s goalie on a couple of occasions.

This led to fans saying that his (De Gea`s) performance was spot on while leading some to say he deserved a trophy for his outstanding showing for his Manchester United side like we’ve seen over the years from him in goal.

This he showed again denying City to keep the Red Devils in the game during the course of the contest.
