Manchester City with another dominating performance at their home turf, beating their arch rivals Manchester United with a 4-1 margin. United lacked determination in the second half of the game and let City penetrate easily into their own half.
United’s defensive work is degrading day by day. Ragnick made some prominent changes to the starting-XI yet again, leaving Ronaldo out of the squad. Rafael Varane and Luke Shaw were also absent as they got affected by covid-19 this mid-week. Elanga who has been on a scintillating form lately, got the opportunity to play in Ronaldo’s place.
Kevin De Bruyne opened the books within the first five minutes of the game. Bernardo Silva cut a ball back from the by-line into the path of Kevin De Bruyne and the Belgian dispatched a left-footed shot into the net. On the 22nd minute of the game, United were on level terms as Jadon Sancho produced an exquisite curling effort preventing Ederson to save that ball. Six minutes later, Kevin De Bruyne again doubled the lead. David De Gea produced a jaw dropping save yet again and that rebound helped Kevin De Bruyne to make the best out of it.
Must Read – De Gea saving United from embarrassment throughout the season
United had only 30% of the possession throughout the game which shows how much they dominated. Mahrez produced an absolute screamer assisted by Kevin De Bruyne from a set play in the 68th minute of the Derby. David De Gea was completely beaten and the night went from bad to worse as the time passed. In the stoppage time, Mahrez added another goal to his name when a tight offside call went in his favour having struck from a close range.
This result heavily affected United’s top four spot as Arsenal have three games in their hand and are already enjoying themselves in the fourth position with an extra point. (Arsenal- Matches Played-25, Points-48) (United-Matches Played-28, Points- 47)
This Derby clearly defines how United should be making some changes in the back four as Harry Maguire has consistently failed to do his job. Every club has its own distinctive playing style but in case of United its just blank. United just can’t afford to lose a single point in the upcoming matches if they want that UCL spot next season.
