Manchester City are being backed to challenge domestic foes Manchester United for signing West Ham star Declan Rice in the next summer transfer window.
Rice has made it clear to The Hammers that he wants an exit from the club at the end of the 2021-22 campaign which has meant Manchester United keeping close tabs on the midfield man.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unable to bolster his current names in the centre of the park this summer but the United boss will be tipped to prioritise a new midfield signing next time around with Paul Pogba’s Old Trafford future subject to much speculation.
Reports from The Sun, however, claim that the Red Devils are unlikely to cruise through on their interest in Rice with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola eager to pursue Rice too as he scouts the market for a replacement for his long-serving midfield anchor Fernandinho.
The 37-year-old Brazil international is likely to call it quits at the Etihad Stadium next summer which will put pressure on Guardiola and the Manchester City board to bring in a fresh face to fill the void left by the veteran midfielder.
