Manchester City vs Manchester United Match Report | Premier League

Manchester City once again wept past their arch rivals Manchester United. City dominated the first half, going 4-0 up before the halftime whistle, and adding two more goals in the second half.

In the first 45 minutes, braces from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden all but sealed the three points for the hosts, before both went on to complete their hat-tricks after the break.

Just before the hour mark, Antony pulled one back for the Reds, making it 4-1, and Anthony Martial scored twice on his return from injury, but these were only consolation goals as Erik ten Hag’s side lost 6-3. Only five minutes later, Foden gave the hosts the lead. Once again involved, Silva played a pass into the box, where an unmarked Foden swept the ball up into the top corner, leaving David De Gea stranded between the sticks.

The Reds were struggling to keep possession, and one of the turnovers resulted in Gundogan almost doubling City’s lead by hitting the post from a free-kick.Just four minutes later, City’s no.9 scored his second goal of the game, this time finishing off a move started by De Bruyne at the back post. And, just before halftime, Haaland would provide the assist for Foden’s second goal.

The Blues’ fourth goal was a carbon copy of their third, with the Englishman scoring beyond De Gea at the far post. The Reds struggled in the second half, though Antony provided a ray of hope just before the hour mark. Against the run of play, the Brazilian cut inside and curled the ball beyond Ederson in the City goal.

However, any glimmer of hope was quickly extinguished by the unstoppable Haaland, who scored his third goal of the game in the 65th minute. The Norwegian completed his hat-trick after a low cross in from first-half substitute Sergio Gomez.

He wasn’t the only City player to hit a triple in front of his home crowd. In the 72nd minute, Foden scored his third goal of the game with a ferocious shot past De Gea at the near post to make it 6-1. On his comeback from injury, Martial scored twice, the first when the ball fell into his path after Fred’s shot was well saved by Ederson.

In the 90th minute, the Frenchman converted a penalty to give United a third goal. But, like Antony’s earlier strike, Anthony’s double was ineffective.
