Manchester United 1-1 Leicester City: Player Ratings | EPL 21-22

Manchester United hosted Leicester City at Old Trafford yesterday in the hopes of securing a win at home and therefore, fighting for a place in the top four.

The Red Devils played well for the opening 45 minutes and went into the halftime break with a score of 0-0. Kelechi Iheanacho ultimately broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute through a glorious header past David de Gea.

Manchester United, on the other hand, equalized three minutes later when Fred scored from a tight angle to level up the game. Leicester did score a second but it was rightly ruled out for offside.

The match finished with a 1-1 scoreline and this result further dented United’s hopes of securing a top-four finish this season.

Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared against Leicester City:

David de Gea(GK) – 7/10

The Spanish goalkeeper saved a point for his team with a handful of world-class saves. He was lively throughout the game but still couldn’t keep a clean sheet.

Diogo Dalot (RB) – 6.5/10

He was a bit shaky defensively, but he created two crucial chances for Manchester United that should have been scored. Talk about missing Cristiano Ronaldo over here.

Harry Maguire (CB) – 7/10

After a week of heavy criticism and boos, he commanded this game well for the team. Maguire regained possession of the ball several times inside his own half and cleared his lines when necessary. He was also quite precise in his passing.

Raphael Varane (CB) – 6/10

Varane moved up higher when needed, but his performance in the second half was below par.

Luke Shaw (LB) – 6/10

He had a couple of good chances in the first half before being substituted before halftime. Maybe he couldn’t repeat his last week’s heroics in this game.

Scott McTominay (CM) – 6.5/10

The Scottish midfielder was powerful in the air and made two solid runs with the ball. But the headlines were grabbed by his fellow mate.

Fred (CM)- 8/10

The Brazilian striker did well defensively but his major influence was in the attacking third. With a neat finish, he equalized for Manchester United and also successfully completed some powerful dribbles.

Anthony Elanga (RW) – 6/10

Struggled to create and finish chances for the team. A very silent night for the young Swede who was constantly marked by the Leicester City defenders.

Paul Pogba (CAM) – 6/10

The Frenchmen had a few flashes of some neat play, but he was mostly incapable of scoring a goal. He was replaced later due to his below-par performance.

Jadon Sancho (LW) – 6.5/10

He had two decent chances from the left-wing, but he wasn’t able to score today. Not a game for the attackers, we guess.

Bruno Fernandes (ST) – 7/10

He was given the responsibility to play as a striker and we worked really hard. He was instrumental in building up Fred’s goal.

Substitutes:

Alex Telles (LB) – 6/10

He had one good moment to score in the second half but that couldn’t make much difference in the end.

Marcus Rashford (ST) – 6/10

Very little contribution at the end and it looks like he could be moving away this summer.

Nemanja Matic (CM) – 6/10

His introduction gave the team some boost as Rangnick constantly tried to shift the tempo of the game.
